"Put Another Nickel In" - A Collaborative Painting by Canvas by Canvas

The most popular Jukebox of all time, and the one most often seen on mugs, t-shirts, etc. is the Wurlitzer Model 1015, popularly referred to as the "bubbler". This jukebox was produced in 1946-47 and its long-lasting popularity was driven by an advertising campaign by Wurlitzer which splashed the 1015's image in advertisements in Life and Look magazines, the Saturday Evening Post, as well as on thousands of billboards across the country. Although it is still being produced today, the colorful machine evokes memories of our youth spent doing the jitterbug, bee-bop, and grooving to rock and roll!

Another nostalgic painting by Canvas by Canvas, this piece is comprised of nine 8” x 10” canvases created by the Canvas By Canvas artists, each discreetly signed with the initials of each painter. The canvases are framed together in a custom-made sturdy wood frame that is built to last for generations.

“Put Another Nickel In . . .” is available for sale and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the participating artists.  Visit our website at http://www.canvasbycanvas.com/ for purchase information.

Canvas by Canvas artists love creating images that recreate memories.  What images from your past put a smile on your face and a song in your heart?   Email us at canvasbycanvas@gmail.com and share your ideas.  We'd love to hear from you!  And ... PS: .... We accept commissions!

"Crazy 'Bout a Mercury"-A collaborative Painting about our love for the old and rusty by Canvas by Canvas

"Crazy 'Bout a Mercury"
34"x34" acrylic painting
Each of the 9 canvases in this
piece of collaborative art
is painted by a different artist

This beauty was found along hwy 80 near Weatherford. We are always looking for beautiful, rusty vintage vehicles to photograph and turn into a painting.
Just like Alan Jackson, we're crazy bout a Mercury too. This painting recently sold to a collector of ours in California. Guess he likes Mercurys too. You can read more about our style of art and meet each one of us here.

If you have a favorite subject, we can create a design and paint you an original piece of art. Maybe you had a favorite old car you would like to commemorate.

Unmasked at Banyule Arts Space

Unmasked, 2011 Pencil and chinagraph, 76 x 56 cm
Photograph by Tim Gresham

Unmasked, 2011 (above) has been selected as one of 30 finalists in Duality - The 2011 Banyule Award for Works on Paper.  The exhibition’s theme is one I have frequently explored in my own work. The drawing was developed during August/September in my studio at Ballarat. I also include some stages in its progress (see below). It’s been many years since I've used pencil as a medium, and plan to work with it some more. I was in Berlin when Duality opened on November 11, but look forward to calling in soon.

Duality – The 2011 Banyule Award for Works on Paper runs from 11 November – 14 December at:

Banyule Arts Space
14 Ivanhoe Parade
Ivanhoe VIC 3079
Visiting hours: Wednesday – Saturday 11 am – 5 pm

Collaborative Painting by Canvas by Canvas ~ Vintage 1951 GMC Truck

Tony's Pride and Joy
Vintage Truck Series
37" x 37" framed  SOLD

The Canvas by Canvas Website... click HERE for more paintings

The eight members of Canvas by Canvas met because of their passion for painting. They created CBC because of their friendship and their love of painting. Most people think one painting equals one artist, but not in the work of Canvas by Canvas. Each painting includes several squares or rectangles and each one is painted by a different CBC artist in their own individual style. Each member contributes their time and energy for a collaborative painting that is unique, colorful, and contemporary. The paintings are usually approximately 30” square but CBC works in all sizes and styles and welcomes commissions.
The photo reference for this 1951 GMC pickup truck was taken in Santa Fe when several members flew there for a photo shoot. The group meets for paint outs, birthday lunches and is in the planning stages for an April 2012 show at the Old Post Office Museum and Art Center in Graham, TX.
Thank you for visiting our blog and come back soon.

In Suspense/Goodbye to London

Below is an invitation to a group exhibition at Hand Held Gallery that I have some work in. In Suspense was curated by Hand Held Gallery Director Megan Herring, and there are some wonderful artists in the show. I hope that those lucky enough to be in Melbourne on the evening of November 3 (sadly, this excludes me) will pop in and have a glass of wine with the artists, or call in during its run. To see the two zines I made for In Suspense and for full details of the show, visit Moth Woman Press HERE. (Scroll down to the 29 September Blog Post).

In the meantime, we leave London for Berlin this morning, which we are very much looking forward to. Fortunately we will still be back in Melbourne in plenty of to see In Suspense before it closes on November 26.
